MHS 6464: Introduction to Disaster Mental Health Counseling


Credits: 3                    Grading Scheme: Letter

Prerequisite: Mental health professional licensure OR state certfication in school counseling      

Providing an overview of the history, theories, and interventions associated with disaster mental health counseling. Special attention will be paid to working with culturally diverse individuals and other vulnerable client populations. Topics will include characteristics and outcomes of natural and human-made disasters, traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue.
