The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) strives to be a leading graduate program with excellence in planning education, research, and service for the citizens of the state, the nation, and the world. The department values diversity and strives to recruit and retain faculty and students with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Minimum requirements for master's degrees are given in the Master's Degrees section of this catalog. For more information regarding specific requirements, please see the program page below and our website: http://www.dcp.ufl.edu/urp.
Combination Degree Programs
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Levin College of Law offer a combination degree program. The four-year program leads to a Juris Doctor and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning. Students may pursue Concurrent Degrees in Latin American Studies and in Transportation Engineering. Concurrent degrees allow 9 credits to be shared between the two degrees. Areas of concentration with other programs in the Graduate School may be developed to meet students' individual needs.
In addition, the department offers a combination undergraduate/graduate degree program with several UF departments and colleges, including Sustainability and the Built Environment, Political Science, Forestry, and more. Please contact a College of Design, Construction and Planning Advisor and/or Graduate Coordinator for Urban and Regional Planning to learn more and for information about application and approval procedures.
In addition to coursework, the student is required to complete an internship with a public agency or a private planning firm and to complete a master’s thesis or a research project (in lieu of a thesis) with faculty approval. The Department reserves the right to retain student work for recordkeeping, exhibition, or instruction.
Complete descriptions of the requirements for the above-mentioned degrees are provided in the Graduate Degrees section of this catalog. For more information, please see the program page below and our website: http://www.dcp.ufl.edu/urp.
