The nationally ranked College of Nursing offers the graduate degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Sciences. Requirements for this degree are given in the Graduate Degrees section of this catalog. Students may request special review by the College of Nursing Admissions Committee if they believe they are strong candidates for graduate study but do not fully meet all criteria.
The College also offers the professional degree of Doctor of Nursing Practice. The degree is a practice-focused doctorate designed to prepare expert nurses in specialized advanced practice. The DNP is an advanced educational credential for those who desire advanced practice knowledge but do not need or want a research focus. The focus of DNP program is on innovative and evidence-based practice. The DNP prepares advanced practice nurses with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed in today’s and tomorrow’s complex health care environment, and to provide advanced practice nurses with educational backgrounds comparable to health care practitioners in other fields.
